MEMBERSHIP INFORMATION SHEET

Thanks for your interests in becoming a member! Please take a moment to review the information below before choosing one of the categories of membership that best suits you. Send us an email at answersociety2020@gmail.com with your membership of choice and we will send you a form to fill out. All memberships are based on donation.

REGULAR MEMBER
An individual:

• over the age of 18

• is a sex worker, retired sex worker, Ally or Director

• completes a registration form

• is recorded on the ANSWERS register

• is entitled to one vote at any Meeting of Members

• supports the purposes of ANSWERS

• may not acting or speaking contrary to the Purposes of ANSWERS, including on social media, in accordance with Bylaws, Policy and Procedure

• has one vote at any Meetings of Members 

• provides real name, address, phone number and email to record in the ANSWERS registry – although may also provide an alternate name to be used otherwise

• entitled to Notice of, attendance at, participation in any Meeting of Members

• Directors and employees of ANSWERS are automatically Regular Voting Members

• Must show government issued picture ID over zoom or otherwise when registering to confirm identity and address

• membership fee is by donation

• purpose of providing personal information is so ANSWERS can identify those individuals entitled to vote at any Meeting of Members and, by voting, affect the strategic direction and operations of ANSWERS; there is a legal requirement pursuant to the Societies Act of Alberta; to communicate with Regular Voting Members about the business of ANSWERS

 

REGULAR NON-VOTING MEMBER
An individual:

• not entitled to vote at any Meeting of Members

• is a sex worker, retired sex worker or Ally

• does not feel comfortable providing personal information

• may be registered with ANSWERS under any pseudonym they prefer without providing personal information

• is registered to participate or volunteer in any program, service, activity, or function of ANSWERS

• is not entitled to Notice of meetings

• NO voting rights

• NO access to online resources that could expose other individuals to identification

• are supporters of the Purposes of ANSWERS

• may provide donations or social media support, for instance

• may provide an email address to receive information

• membership is by donation.

 

ALLY

An individual or entity (Person):

• supports the Purposes of ANSWERS

• may not have previously worked as a sex worker or have any personal involvement in the sex industry

• is not entitled to Notice of meetings

• NO voting rights

• NO access to online resources that could expose other individuals to identification

• are supporters of the Purposes of ANSWERS

• may provide donations or social media support, for instance

• may provide an email address to receive information

• membership is by donation.

 

HONORARY MEMBER

An individual or entity (Person):

• is over the age of 18 if an individual

• has contributed to the Purposes of ANSWERS in an extraordinary manner, as determined by the ED, in accordance with Policies and Procedures

• may have demonstrated leadership in the Purposes and Objectives of ANSWERS

• may have actively supported ANSWERS through in-kind services, financial contributions, or long-term membership

• supports the Purposes of ANSWERS

• may not have previously worked as a sex worker or have any personal involvement in the sex industry

• is not entitled to Notice of meetings

• NO voting rights

• NO access to online resources that could expose other individuals to identification

• are supporters of the Purposes of ANSWERS

• may provide donations or social media support, for instance

• may provide an email address to receive information

• membership is by donation

 

MEMBERSHIP TERMINATION

The ED may revoke honorary membership at any time for good reason in accordance with the Bylaws, Policy and Procedure.

Upon determining that it is for good reason and in the best interests of ANSWERS to do so, the ED has the authority, on behalf of ANSWERS, to suspend or revoke the privilege of any individual or entity to participate in any program, service, activity, or function of ANSWERS. 

The authority of the ED under this Bylaw includes the authority to suspend or revoke the privilege of any Member or any other individual or entity to enter onto or use any property of ANSWERS; or to speak with any employee or volunteer of ANSWERS.

The terms of any suspension or revocation of privileges under this Bylaw, and the terms and conditions of the restoration of privileges, if any, will be determined by the ED in the best interests of ANSWERS as a whole, in accordance with any applicable Bylaws, Policies and Procedures.

Suspension or revocation of membership suspends or rescinds all Member rights, as the case may be.
